<image:title>The Grove Blog - ❤️‍ What Wants to Bloom From This Grief — exploring how loss and change can seed new growth - Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)</image:title>
<image:caption>Yarrow has been worked with for both healing and protection across North America, Asia, Europe for centuries. In traditional Indigenous, magical and herbal practices yarrow is valued for its power to support wounds, emotional resilience, and boundaries When I see her here in my garden under snow and I recognize how grief and growth can coexist. Yarrow’s many cultivated varieties show how life adapts, yet the root characteristics of the species stays and endures. I take that as a lesson: what wants to bloom from grief might not look like what we expect, but it still rises.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A solstice-aligned summer celebration of renewal, sunlight, and ancestral connection In the Sakha Republic of Russia (Yakutia), the Indigenous Sakha people honor the summer solstice with Yhyakh, a vibrant and sacred festival marking the new year, fertility, and the return of the sun. Yhyakh typically takes place around June 21–23, aligning with the longest day of the year in this northern region where the sun barely sets. The celebration begins with traditional cleansing rituals and offerings to nature spirits. People wear national dress, perform Ohuokhai (a circular group dance), and share kumis (fermented mare’s milk) as a sacred drink. The festival is both a joyful gathering and a spiritual renewal, rooted in ancient cosmology and deep reverence for the cycles of nature.</image:caption>

In the Ecuadorian Andes, Inti Raymi is celebrated around the June solstice by Indigenous Kichwa communities, especially in Otavalo, Cotacachi, and surrounding highland regions. Rooted in Inca traditions venerating Inti, the sun god, the festival marks a time of gratitude, purification, and renewal at the start of the harvest season. Celebrants wear vibrant traditional garments, dance in wide circles, and play Andean instruments, their rhythmic stomping honoring Pachamama (Mother Earth). It's both a sacred ritual and a form of cultural resilience, joyfully reclaiming ancestral ways in the face of ongoing colonization.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A fiery midsummer celebration of purification, protection, and release Held on the eve of the summer solstice, Hogueras de San Juan ignites beaches, streets, and mountaintops across Spain, especially in Alicante, Galicia, and Catalonia. Though officially tied to Saint John the Baptist’s Day (June 24), the festival carries deep pagan roots, honoring the longest day of the year with fire as a sacred transformer. Revelers light massive bonfires, jump over flames, and sometimes burn handwritten wishes or fears, symbolizing release and renewal. In coastal regions, it’s common to run into the sea at midnight for a ritual cleansing. It’s a jubilant blend of folklore, fire magic, and communal joy.</image:caption>
